Thomas Vermaelen has joined Barcelona for £15million on a 5 year deal and Arsene Wenger ha moved quickly to announce Former deputy captain Mikel Arteta as new captain while Per Mertesacker will be his deputy. Wenger said this when asked who woulda be his captain for the season: "One: Arteta and
two: Mertesacker. Arteta will be captain and
Mertesacker vice-captain."
Wenger also praised the Belgian saying "I allowed Thomas Vermaelen to
leave before the end of the season. He was not
playing regularly, he behaved outstandingly and
with dignity. It's difficult to keep that kind of
player at the top level if he doesn't play
regularly."
