Mertesacker could be Arsenal's new captain

As Mikel Arteta and Thomas Vermaelen future at the Emirates stadium
remain unclear, the BFG remains the leading candidate to be the club
captain. Mikel Arteta is the club stand in captain after Thomas
Vermaelen who is the club captain. The belgian defender has been on
the bench for most of the season after loosing his place to laurent
koscielny and is a target for Napoli and Manchester city while Arteta
who has featured many times for Arsenal this season has suffered a dip
in form and it was reported earlier on this blog that he is not in
line for a new contract. Both players may not remain in the club next
season and so it means the German might be the club captain if they
leave. He has captained the team few times before and his time may
come soon.
